Many folks are getting away from giving out candy to the Treaters.  The creeps at the Big Scare have divided opinions with regard to this.  After all, there is such a thing as a candy overload.  Plus, some people just don’t give out “good” candy.  However, if you are going to refrain from handing out candy, you’d better come up with something equally as awesome.  Below are some of the treats we have been able to locate that aren’t chocolate-covered, but would still be very welcome in our treat pails on Halloween night.

From Halloween Goldfish to seasonal Gushers to Halloween-shaped Pretzels to the Nabisco Classic Mix – Spooky Edition, there are plenty of non-candy options out there that aren’t boring or tasteless.  Plus, how can you beat this amazing packaging!  These are worth buying for the boxes alone!

Let us know what you’re dishing out at the door this year!

Ghastly Greetings, Boils and Ghouls!  The Big Scare is extremely pleased with the treats available in spooky stores this year.  Not only have the major candy makers stepped up their game with fang-tastic Halloween packaging, but the amount of non-traditional Halloween treats is also on the rise.  Today, we highlight some of the awfully awesome treats you can find in a retailer near you.

First up, fans of “blind box” toys will love Lego’s newest Halloween offerings.  Minifigure Series 14 is dedicated to lovers of Halloween, monsters, and mystery figures.  These unique treats come in blind packages, meaning you can’t see what is inside.  Each package contains 1 of 16 different Minifigures.  Pictured below: the Witch (#4), the Skeleton (#11), and the Banshee (#14) along with the little booklet that each one comes with.  These are available at various retailers, but they are selling fast!

Two kings of the snack world, Chips Ahoy! and TombStone Pizza are also getting into the Halloween spirit.  Chips Ahoy! is offering up special holiday chocolate-chip cookies with the orange chocolate chips.  The packaging is also themed to the season.  And TombStone Pizza is, once again, the “official pizza of Halloween,” and that means monsters on the packages.  Each of the pizza varieties has its own creepy character.  Check ’em out!

It’s what’s on the outside that counts… Nabisco’s Monster Cookies

Some grocery stores are displaying an epic tower of cookies, bookended by lifesize versions of Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride, making for the most epic store display of 2013.  The character selection and artwork is a real throwback to the 1990s when the official Universal Monsters used to adorn such mammoth retail displays.  And while these Nabisco Monsters are not licensed, they might as well be, as they bear a stronger (cartoon) resemblance to the movie characters than anything Universal is currently sanctioning.  So, if you are fortunate enough to stumble upon one of these boo-utifil displays, please share a picture with us in the comments.

But now onto the product they house within their fortress of fright… Nabisco Cookies: Classic Mix — treat sized bags of your favorite commercial-brand cookie products.  And look at the great boxes!  The Dracula is fang-tastic, and the Witch is wickedly wonderful.  Too bad that they could not have squeezed in the Monster and the Bride from the store display, but you can’t get everything, I suppose.  The Dracula, however, makes up for the loss, probably being the best non-likeness retail rendition of the character in over a decade.   These cookie boxes are widely available at Walmart and Kroger stores, but not every place displays them in the beautiful Monster Fortress. Ah well, at least they have cookies.

Nabisco is also offering up another type of Halloween treat with another great package, this in the form of the Halloween Oreo.  Yes,  Halloween Oreos have been around for years (a testament to their bewitching lure), but it’s always good to fall back on an old favorite in these ever uncertain times.
