Did you know that cupcakes are enjoyed more at Halloween than any other time of the year?  We didn’t either…  Until we read it in a weekly grocery store flyer.  But that fantastic tidbit is a great segue into today’s Halloween Treats post.  This year, Wal-Mart is offering up some creepy cupcakes featuring the Disney Villains.  Now, while Wal-Mart’s bakery has never been our prime destination for fresh-out-of-the-oven goodies, we just couldn’t resist this baker’s dozen featuring the Mistresses of Mayhem.  What do you think of them?  And, more importantly, what other cool Halloween cupcakes have you spotted this season?

CVS Pharmacy has been carrying a line of Disney Halloween figures for the past few years.  This year, they have a ”swell” grouping of Disney fan favorites.  Among this year’s line-up are FrankenGoof (or Goofenstein!) and Donald “Devil” Duck, both pictured below.  They are also carrying a Pumpkin King Mickey, Pumpkin Queen Minnie and a Pirate Pluto.  What other cool Disney Halloween merchandise have you spotted this year?

Halloween Treats: Mickey Mouse and Friends Mini Cheese Balls Halloween Snacks

Since its divorce with McDonald’s, Disney has jumped headfirst into the snack market.  With everything from fruit snacks to juice drinks, Disney characters now line the shelves of grocery stores nationwide.  Now the Disney company has embarked on a new journey… into the world of cheese balls!  And who better than to put on the package than the Big Cheese himself – Mickey Mouse!

Yes, Utz brand cheese-puff snacks now have Disney characters on them, but the reason this new product is making headlines on this blog is because these Disney characters are dressed for Halloween.  The individual treat bags feature Count Mickula, Goofenstein, Devil Duck and more!

We enjoy being able to see Disney characters get their monster on, so we just had to share the development here.  We found these snacks at Target.  What other Halloween snacks have you seen and where have you found them?

Halloween Home Entertainment Preview: Pet Sematary, Mad Monster Party, Meet Frankenstein, & More!

This week, we have a complete lineup of the “must-have” home entertainment releases of the season.  Check out our round-up below, and return tomorrow for our take on the upcoming release of the original Dark Shadows feature films on Blu-Ray and DVD.

The News:

The 1989 adaptation of the Stephen King classic, Pet Sematary is coming to Blu-Ray on October 2!  The film features Fred Gwynne, best known for portraying the lovable Herman Munster on the classic monster sitcom, The Munsters.  Gwynne’s character is not quite as lovable in this, but his inner-Herman certainly shines through (at times).  Over all, in our opinion, the story is both frightening and compelling, and we don’t think the classic theme by The Ramones can be beat…  Let us know your thoughts.  And read more about the film here.

We also wanted to note that there were a number of Halloween Blu-Ray releases that occurred earlier this month that we didn’t have a chance to cover.  You can check out our round-up below:

The Rankin/Bass animated classic Mad Monster Party was released on Blu-Ray disc for the first time on September 4.  It’s a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, so you will receive both discs if you should decide to pick it up.

The Disney Halloween cult classic Hocus-Pocus was also released on Blu-Ray disc on September 4.  It also comes in a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack.

In addition, yesterday, we mentioned that Meet Frankenstein was not included in the Universal Monsters Blu-Ray collection, but the terrific film is available on Blu-Ray disc.  It came out on August 28, another release in celebration of the Universal Studios centennial.  It stars Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr.  The film follows the comedic duo and their hilarious encounter with Count Dracula, whose sinister plans are thwarted by the Wolf Man and an out-of-control Frankenstein Monster.

You can purchase all of these Blu-Ray releases online, and some of them may pop up in a store near you!  So be on the look-out!

And now we want to know… What are your favorite Halloween films?  Will you be picking them up on Blu-Ray?  Share your thoughts in the comments section!

The mistresses of mayhem are on the loose this Halloween.  After a long absence, Disney’s most villainous ladies have returned in rather spectacular form.  The Disney Store is offering a variety of merchandise featuring their likenesses.  Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula and Cruella de Vil are among the featured creatures.  Currently, Disney Stores are offering stationary, cards, plush, ornaments and figures of these Villains, as well as others.  (Two of these figures are pictured below.)

In addition, a special Designer Collection of Disney Villains will debut in September.  The crown jewel of this release is a six doll set featuring completely updated looks for the ladies of villainy.  You can read more information on this exclusive doll collection at Disney’s retail blog.

Remember, our daily Halloween updates begin Monday September 3.  We can’t wait to see you then!  In the meantime, tell us who your favorite Disney Villain is…  Add a comment below!
