Creepy Kroger: Halloween Finds at Your Local Grocer

1

Kroger is the largest grocery chain in America and operates food stores under various names including Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, Ralph’s, and Smith’s.  They usually carry a decent selection of Halloween-themed food products, and this year is no different.  Check out the great Halloween Tombstone Pizzas featuring Dracula and Frankenstein…

In addition to offering up frightful food offerings, they have a number of devilish decor items that are also quite unique.  Check out this miniature haunted house.  It is one of three illuminated haunted house designs available.

And check out this awesome pumpkin carving kit.  Unlike the usual pumpkin carving kit that may offer only a saw and a scoop, this is a full-blow playset.  This Pumpkin Pro Carve-a-Scene pack includes a saw, strobe light, ghost picks, and a grave yard.  Instead of carving a face, you carve a window into your pumpkin and use the decorations to build a scene.  How cool is that?

Spook Spotter: The Best Halloween Treats of 2015

Big Scare spook spotter

Ghastly Greetings, Boils and Ghouls!  The Big Scare is extremely pleased with the treats available in spooky stores this year.  Not only have the major candy makers stepped up their game with fang-tastic Halloween packaging, but the amount of non-traditional Halloween treats is also on the rise.  Today, we highlight some of the awfully awesome treats you can find in a retailer near you.

First up, fans of “blind box” toys will love Lego’s newest Halloween offerings.  Minifigure Series 14 is dedicated to lovers of Halloween, monsters, and mystery figures.  These unique treats come in blind packages, meaning you can’t see what is inside.  Each package contains 1 of 16 different Minifigures.  Pictured below: the Witch (#4), the Skeleton (#11), and the Banshee (#14) along with the little booklet that each one comes with.  These are available at various retailers, but they are selling fast!

Two kings of the snack world, Chips Ahoy! and TombStone Pizza are also getting into the Halloween spirit.  Chips Ahoy! is offering up special holiday chocolate-chip cookies with the orange chocolate chips.  The packaging is also themed to the season.  And TombStone Pizza is, once again, the “official pizza of Halloween,” and that means monsters on the packages.  Each of the pizza varieties has its own creepy character.  Check ’em out!

Scary Snacks: Part One

This was originally supposed to be our final post highlighting Halloween Treats.  However, there are so many that we want to tell you about, we’ve decided to split this post into two articles.  Scary Snacks: Part Two will debut Monday.

Many of you may remember the 1990s, when the Universal Monsters, Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay Chips were inseparable.  Last year, we told you about the new monster-sized bags of chips bearing not only a Frankenstein image, but an official Universal Studios Monsters logo.  They are back again this season in three designs: Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Mummy.  All bear the official Universal Studios Monster logo, and the Mummy even comes in an alternative plastic bucket available at Target.  No, the artwork doesn’t look much like the classic Monsters, but it is nice to see Frito-Lay continuing its partnership with Universal, even if this year’s store displays did not have anything to do with the Universal Monsters.  These bags also come shipped to certain stores in official Universal Monsters boxes, so be on the lookout for those!

DEADLY DORITOS

The Monster bags aren’t the only creepy chips.  In fact, Frito-Lay is also releasing a Doritos-only bag of Halloween goodness.  This package is more traditional in is approach, but what’s more is that the chip bags, themselves, also contain the Halloween print.  The only drawback in this bag is that it does not distribute the flavors evenly, leaving Cool Ranch fans left begging for more!

TERRIFYING TOMBSTONES

And, finally, Tombstone is back with a new set of Halloween Pizzas.  Take a look at the three new characters in this year’s assortment.  Pretty cool, huh?  Dracula is even sporting piercing blue eyes!  These pizzas are widely available, and the company is promoting these precious pies with social media — something that deserves to be pointed out, given that other companies have yet to fully take advantage of the possibilities with online Halloween promotions.  Check out their Facebook page.  And, who knows, maybe Pepsi/Frito-Lay and Universal will get a clue and do something with officially licensed Monsters.  One can dream… or is it “nightmare?”

Every year, Tombstone releases a new series of Halloween-themed pizzas.  For the past few years, the pizzas have featured a variety of characters from Dracula to Frankenstein.  This year’s assortment features a cool werewolf, a Grim Reaper, and a jack-o’-lantern.

We’ve made these easy-to-bake frozen pizzas a staple of Halloween night.  Between the door-busting Treaters and the spooky movies, it’s hard to prepare a big feast.  That’s why we think these “official pizzas of Halloween” are ideal for the most special night of the year.  What do you eat on All Hallows’ Eve?
